The challenge
No ductwork, no realistic way to add it without destroying plaster walls, and a summer routine of hauling window units in and out. The homeowners wanted real cooling and a way to retire the aging boiler eventually.
What we did
A four-zone ductless system with a single outdoor unit tucked behind the garage. Wall-mounted heads in the two bedrooms and the office, and a ceiling cassette in the living room so nothing hung on the plaster walls. Line sets ran through closets and the basement to keep the exterior clean.
The result
Four window units gone, every room at its own temperature, and a system that heats well enough that the boiler is now backup. The homeowners qualified for the federal tax credit on the heat pump.
In the homeowner's words
"We'd been told for years that central air wasn't possible in this house. Nobody mentioned ductless. The living room cassette is invisible."
