Replacing a 30-year-old furnace with ductless on the Boise Bench

The challenge
The homeowner had been without reliable heat for most of a winter. The furnace in the crawlspace was past thirty years old, the ductwork under the house was dirty and leaking, and there was no air conditioning at all. Replacing the furnace meant either reusing the old ducts or tearing them out of a crawlspace nobody wanted to crawl into.
What we did
We installed a two-zone ductless heat pump instead: one outdoor unit on a wall bracket, a wall-mounted head in the main living area and another in the bedroom. No ductwork, no crawlspace, and the old furnace stayed where it was, disconnected. The whole job took a day.
Each room got its own thermostat, the house got air conditioning for the first time, and the air stopped passing through thirty years of dust under the floor.
The result
A modern system with heating and cooling for about what a like-for-like furnace replacement plus a new air conditioner would have cost, with a tax credit on top. Lower bills, quieter rooms, and a homeowner who got her winter back.
In the homeowner's words
"They made my winter. I went months without heat and now I have heat and air conditioning and I can set the bedroom cooler than the living room. I didn't know that was an option."
