Heat pumps are different. So is fixing them.
A heat pump has more going on than a furnace or an AC: a reversing valve, a defrost cycle, an outdoor sensor, and an inverter board on newer models. When it misbehaves, the symptom often points somewhere other than the cause.
Our technicians work on heat pumps year round, in both modes. We carry the common parts, we have the tools to read inverter diagnostics, and we know the difference between a unit that's iced up because something's wrong and one that's just in a normal defrost.
You'll get a clear explanation, a flat price, and a repair that holds.

Common heat pump problems
What we see most
Blowing cool air in heat mode
Often a reversing valve, a low charge, or a defrost cycle that isn't ending. Sometimes just the thermostat setting.
Outdoor unit iced over
Light frost is normal. A solid block of ice means the defrost control, the sensor, or airflow has a problem.
Running constantly
Expected on the coldest days. Every day points to a charge problem, a dirty coil or an undersized unit.
Won't start
Capacitors, contactors and a tripped breaker cover most of these. Inverter units throw a code we can read.
Loud or vibrating
A failing fan motor, a bent blade or a loose mount. Easy to find, worth fixing before it takes something else with it.
Repair or replace a heat pump?
A compressor failure on a unit past twelve years is usually the end. A fan motor, capacitor, contactor, sensor or board on a younger unit is a repair worth making. We'll tell you which situation you're in and quote both ways if it's close.

Heat Pump Repair questions
Why is my heat pump covered in ice?+
A thin frost that clears every hour or so is normal defrost. Thick ice that stays means the defrost cycle isn't working, airflow is blocked, or the refrigerant charge is low. Turn it to emergency heat if you have it and give us a call.
Is it normal for a heat pump to blow lukewarm air?+
Yes. Heat pump supply air is usually 85 to 95 degrees, which feels cool next to your skin but still heats the house. If the house isn't holding temperature, that's different, and worth a visit.
Can you repair any brand of heat pump?+
Every major brand sold in Idaho, including ductless mini-splits. Inverter diagnostics are brand-specific and we keep the tools for the common ones.

What your neighbors are saying
“Our furnace quit on a Sunday night in January. They were here Monday morning, showed me the cracked igniter, gave me a price and had it running in under an hour. No upsell, no drama.”
“Second opinion saved us thousands. Another company said we needed a whole new system. Bright Peak found a failed capacitor and a dirty coil. That was two summers ago and it's still running fine.”
“They installed two ductless heads in our old North End house in a day. The crew was polite, cleaned up, and walked us through the remotes. We finally have air conditioning.”
