The challenge
McCall winters go well below zero. The owners arrived on Friday nights to a cabin at 40 degrees and spent the first evening feeding the stove. Baseboards were expensive to leave on all week.
What we did
Two wall-mounted cold-climate ductless heads, one in the great room and one in the loft bedroom, on an outdoor unit mounted high on a bracket to stay clear of roof snow. App control lets the owners turn the heat up from Boise on Friday afternoon.
The result
A warm cabin on arrival, a woodstove that's now for atmosphere, and heating costs a fraction of what the baseboards cost. Air conditioning in August was a bonus nobody asked for.
In the homeowner's words
"I turn it on from the car at the Horseshoe Bend hill and the cabin is warm when we get there. That alone was worth it."
